Olympics 2012

The 2012 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXX
Olympiad, are due to be celebrated in London in the United Kingdom from 27
July to 12 August 2012.

In 2009 the IOC will meet to decide which new events will be included.

Of course the one serious contender is the "Crabbing" event.

Each year in the village of Walberswick in Suffolk, The British Open Crabbing Championship is held. An event for all ages which attracts a large number of people. An event that even the overweight children of the UK could aspire to.

The crab was mentioned in the legend of Hercules (thus tying it to Greece - home of the Olympics). In the Thames there are Chinese Mitten Crabs (thus linking London with the previous Olympics in China).

Therefore it is about time "Crabbing" joined the Olympics.

The 2012 Olympics need a mascot and to go with the proposed new event, a slight rearrangement of the 2012 Olympic logo gives us Daley the Decapod (named after the great Olympian Daley Thompson the decathlete).

Many other sporting teams across the globe already use the crab as a mascot.

The Humboldt Crabs Baseball Team

The Guinness Shanghai Hairy Crabs Rugby Club

The West Indies Cricket Board

So Boris, stop wiff waffing around and nominate "Crabbing" as the new event for the 2012 Olympic Games.

UPDATE: Sadly the crab will not be the mascot for 2012, that goes to Wenlock and Mandeville (perhaps the only time plankton has got the better of Krabs!).
